Whoever knows what goes on in menageries doubts that the beasts are \u201cimproved\u201d\u009d there. They are weakened, they are made less harmful, and through the depressive effect of fear, through pain, through wounds, and through hunger, they become sickly beasts.\t\u2014\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Weininger&#8217;s (and Kafka&#8217;s) criminal dog, a creature that makes a menagerie of whatever environment\t\u2014without, I would say, something of the dignity of even the domestic cat. The latter more successfully resists \u201cimprovement\u201d\u009d. Of the dog there is no doubt what it means.
